Regard is a horticultural business based at Lugwardine Court between Hereford and Ledbury. We give trainees the opportunity to learn about the health and safety aspects of working within horticulture and provide different growing environments so that they learn about different aspects of propagation. We have restored three sides of the wall to the gardens and have reconstructed 3 of. the original greenhouses from the former council nurseries on Ledbury Road. Landscaping is due to be completed this Autumn and a disabled access path is being built for guided walks through woodlands adjacent to an SSSI area of the River Lugg.

Our exciting new project, the Walled Garden at Lugwardine Court produces some of the more unusual organically grown vegetables and herbs which we supply to local restaurants and fruit and vegetable shops.

Heritage Lottery Project: "Learning from our Heritage"

Over the past eighteen months, Regard has been involved in developing the walled garden as a heritage learning resource with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

There have been delays with the project owing to the partial collapse of the west wall adjacent to Ledbury Road in the winter of 2005/6

Restoration work has been completed and the project is now on schedule to achieve completion by April 2007.

This will include a re structured garden based on its original victorian design, managed pathways into adjacent riverside woodlands with disability access, an information booklet on the history of Lugwardine Court, training and public open days

The project works closely with the Lugwardine Education Centre and St Mary’s School (a specialist science school), as part of a wider scheme to develop Lugwardine Court into a unique learning and visitor resource for the benefit of the local community.

Regard produces bedding plants and basket arrangements for the prestigious Hereford in Bloom project which has won 3 successive regional Gold Awards. We also aim to produce some of the more unusual organically grown vegetables and herbs which we will supply to local businesses and our own CanDo Catering. Regard has been a sustainable social enterprise for 4 years now and won the West Midlands best rural social enterprise of the year 2003 award.
